When it comes to drug and alcohol high school testing , what is more important: Protecting constitutional rights or protecting students? The consensus from students is surprising. There are just as many students for random drug testing as against and in some schools, more students are for random testing than not. The same opinion varies among parents, counselors, coaches and teachers.

There is a big majority of some schools’ who believe there is a big alcohol and a drug problem affecting students. Recent high profile court decisions have determined that it is unconstitutional to randomly test students for drugs and alcohol. The schools that were randomly testing students were testing students who were involved in extracurricular activities- meaning these students had the choice to participate, unlike regular classes required by law. Private schools also fell into this category.

Because the school is private, different laws and regulations differ from public, government-run schools, so they were able to randomly test students. The schools who were randomly testing students all acted on “reasonable cause,” like obvious evidence of increased drug or alcohol use on campus. Now, with recent constitutional cases, schools who were about to begin random alcohol/drug testing have postponed their program until further decisions by state and federal courts.

Students were previously tested using two different methods; urine testing and mouth swab tests for saliva testing. Previously, using either urine or the swabbing tests would only measure very recent alcohol or drug use. Now with EtG alcohol and drug testing, ethyl glucuronide testing, a sample now is able to test several days of prior alcohol and drug use, where it wasn’t possible before. Both urine and swabbing testing are intrusive and cost money to perform. Under current alcohol high school testing rules, a student who tested positive would not face criminal charges, but face varying lengths of suspensions from sports or other extra curricular activities. The student would still attend classes but also be required to attend an approved treatment program.

Hair alcohol testing is the latest and most accurate form of testing on the market today. With only an inch worth of scalp hair from a student, as much as 30 days of alcohol and drug use can be revealed using EtG testing. The instrument used for hair alcohol testing is called a liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, it is a sensitive machine used for testing the smallest of particles in a sample. Besides schools, lawyers, social workers and employers are finding that this type of hair alcohol testing is a far superior way to test someone for recent as well as past alcohol and drug abuse. Plus, hair alcohol testing is by far the least intrusive way to test someone’s metabolites.

Until there is a consensus in the U.S. courts over the rights of students with regards to random alcohol and drug testing, parents, teachers and coaches can only encourage students to abstain with the threat of other consequences or perhaps it will be a peer issue to threaten each other, “continue to abuse and we are all tested via police force, not just by a concerned counselor.”

Direct Marketing Testing Mistakes

admin on August 7, 2011 in Class Testing | Comments Off

Here, you will find few common testing mistakes of direct marketing campaign.

Testing randomly or running sloppy tests

Testing needs discipline that’s why you should do testing continually and carefully. If you don’t have patience and skills for an ongoing tests, analysis, number crunching then it is better to hire someone for this purpose.

Tests are error-free

It is your responsibility to continually seek mistakes in entry level. If your test comes good – don’t think it is perfect. Consider the whole process thoroughly and track down the errors. Here, are few questions that you should continually ask yourself;

Are the addresses good?
Do you think address and bar code are correct?
Do the phone operators logging each and every response?
Do you think e-mails are dumped as spam?
Is there something that is going wrong?

Drawing the wrong conclusions

Some people look the test and make the judgment that they are perfect. Often self mailers don’t work and on the basis of self mailers people draws wrong conclusion such as Christmas is not good time for promotions. However, this is not true in real. This is just the result of poor patience and poorly designed results.

Making decisions based on insignificant results

The test should be statistically valid. This will work when you try to reach enough to your audience and make sure you have sampled accurately. Testing is expensive but you cannot cut corners. Check what response rate you have got after this testing.

Overlooking important results

You have got the information after your testing, now you have to analyze your numbers and draw conclusion based on these numbers. Do more than jus t listing results. Determine what is behind the results. Are these results are seasonal or trendy? Compare your results with industry averages.

Refusing to repeat tests to confirm results

Don’t confirm result on your first test. It is better to repeat your tests. If your direct marketing campaign is successful, you will definitely get similar results. If results are changed, measure the dramatic change in good or bad sense.

Failing to keep a running record of conclusions

You need to continually improve your results after tests. The information you get after each test, organize it in a good way for your future efforts and guidelines.

Thus, these are some common mistakes that every business owner does. Next time, you should keep them in mind and avoid to repeat again in your direct marketing campaign.

Breast Cancer Testing

admin on August 1, 2011 in Class Testing | Comments Off

Breast cancer appears when cell from the breast tissue form a tumor of malign type. Unlike the benign type tumors, the cells of a malign type tumor grow in a way that makes them uncontrollable and life-threatening for the person who has them. Within the malign type of tumors associated there different other categories – mostly depending on where they are located. Two of the most common categories of breast cancer are in situ cancers and the invasive cancers. While in situ cancers are located within the glands for milk production (also called lobules) or the ducts that connect those to the nipple, invasive breast cancers affect not only lobules and ducts in the breast but also the rest of its tissue. Depending on how much an invasive cancer has spread, it can be categorized as a local-stage, regional-stage, or distant-stage.

Another major difference between these categories comes from their probability to be cured, which is decreasing from one category to another, starting with in situ having very high chances for patient’s recovery and ending with the distant-stage one as the one with the lowest chances for recovery.

Statistics from the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute indicate that almost 25 percent of US women diagnosed with cancer suffer from breast cancer. Additionally, they estimated a number of 207,090 new female cases and 39,840 deaths caused by female breast cancer for 2010. However, looking at the survival rates represents a more optimistic point of view. The numbers increased over time and they are currently estimated to be 89% at five years after diagnosis, 82% after 10 years, and 75% after 15 years.

Since breast cancer is curable in its initial stages, it is crucial for it to be diagnosed as early as possible.

There is a large variety of methods that can be used for breast cancer testing purposes, including biopsy, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans, CT (computerized tomography) scans or CAT (computerized axial tomography) scans, blood test, bone scans, mammograms, and ultrasounds. Other breast cancer testing methods that have become more and more commonly used in the recent years include approaches such as the genetic tests. All these have to be accompanied by the opinions and advices of specialized doctors in order to ensure both the adequacy of the diagnosis and the increase of chances for positive responses to prescribed treatment.

Screening is another form of testing that is done without the patient’s having any of the breast cancer symptoms. It can play a crucial role in fighting against a breast cancer because it identifies the disease’s cause in a stage in which the cells form nothing but an abnormal tissue that can be rapidly addressed and can prevent the manifestation of cancer symptoms and the spread of the disease to other tissues and organs. This form of testing is encouraged more and more often and as a preliminary testing, its results are relevant but not conclusive, which is why a positive screening results leads to additional tests being performed.

College Testing Made Easy

admin on July 23, 2011 in School Testing | Comments Off

Most high school students prepping for college admissions probably feel that their academic future weighs entirely on the ACT and SAT. No need to worry, think positive. Remember that your ACT and SAT scores are one factor of your application package. For many colleges and universities, it’s not the most important factor. Truth be told, many colleges are starting to make admissions exams an optional part of the college admissions process, but most still require them. Here are some helpful tips on college testing made easy.

Should You Take the ACT or SAT?

To cover all bases, many students take the ACT and SAT exams. This way they’ll have both exam scores for colleges and universities that stress one test more than the other.

The ACT offers the appealing “Score Choice” option. This way students only report their best scores to colleges and universities they choose.

On the other hand, the College Board mandates students to report all SAT scores, except scores they cancel in a permitted period of time.

This is a major contrast between the ACT and SAT, since poor early SAT scores, for example, could adversely affect the student’s standardized testing profile.

Create a Study Plan

The most common mistake students make when exploring ways for college testing made easy, is to not formulate a custom plan. Its true that some people are natural test takers who study little and achieve high scores, but for the majority of students, this is not so.

Find what works best for you first. Maybe you study better in a group, or maybe you are better off studying alone. The internet is the best study resource for many students while other find the library a better place to prep for college admissions exams.

Work on your confidence

If you think positive, overcome testing fears and anxiety, you will achieve a better score on the ACt or SAT.

Thoughts and subconscious thinking play a major role in test taking. If you fear the exam process from the get go, you have already lowered your chances of scoring better. Remember the ACT and SAT are standardized tests. There are no trick questions.

Do Practice Testing

There are many ACT and SAT practice programs available on the internet. You can find these at such sites as, Kaplan (kaptest.com) and The Princeton Review (princetonreview.com).  Other sources for testing info and practice exams are ACT (actstudent.org) and The College Board, publisher of the SAT (collegeboard.com/satprep). In addition, dozens of test prep books are available at your local library or bookstore.  Most high schools will have this information readily available for you.

Last but not least, a private tutor can be very helpful.. It cost more, but you’ll get one on one help for specific exam topics, and you receive honest and valuable feedback you might not otherwise receive in a study group. Only hire a qualified and experience tutor who is familiar with the specific subjects included in the exam process. Ask your school counselors for help finding a tutor or get  a referral from other students who’ve used qualified tutors. I hope these tips for college testing made easy come in useful for you. Good luck.

Previously, the Virginia schools were required to test, under the No Child Left Behind Act, many of its children with disabilities in reading, math and science, regardless of their ability to do so. Unless they were severely disabled, the children had to take state-required tests for their grade level – whether or not they had the skills and understanding. Thus, many of these special students failed the tests. Testing grades were third, eighth and 11th on an annual basis.

This caused several problems that were frustrating for both the Virginia schools educators and the children:

• Their test scores were pulling down the school state rankings. Virginia schools are required to meet annual student achievement goals based upon these test scores. If they do not meet the goals, Virginia schools experience many possible sanctions, such as losing students to better scoring schools, reorganizing or closing.

• It made the students feel like failures, since they do not have the capacity to participate fully in the testing process at their grade level.

• Virginia schools educators had no accurate indicator as to how well these students were progressing or failing.

Since the testing was created for the non-disabled child at grade level, there was no accurate benchmark or test to show how these disabled children were progressing and what might be needed to do a better job for them.

In April 2007, the U.S. Education Department modified its rules governing the testing of special education children. For those Virginia schools students who are not apt to reach grade level achievement within the same timeframe as their peers without disabilities, they will be able to take a modified test.

Special tests will be written for individual students on their grade level content but at their level of understanding and ability. Otherwise, a Virginia schools fifth grade, disabled child with a third grade understanding will take a test at a third grade level of comprehension on the fifth grade content. To ensure the new regulations are not abused, schools can test up to an additional two percent of students, who meet the eligibility requirements, under the modified testing rules.

The federal government will give states more than million to cover the cost of creating the new tests and guidelines for their use. The new tests are slated to be put into service by the 2008-2009 school year.

With the new changes, state rankings of the Virginia schools will more accurately reflect the true achievements (or lack thereof) of each school. Additionally, Virginia schools teachers will be able to use the test scores to target problem areas for each of these children. The students can more fully participate in the testing process, showing teachers and parents what they have learned and how they are progressing.

The new modifications for Virginia schools testing are a welcomed change by students, educators and parents alike, making the Virginia schools testing a more useful tool – not just a hit or miss measurement.

If you are a gamer who likes to sit on your console for hours on end, why not get paid to do that? And not only get paid, but be paid for testing BETA games (games that are yet to be released). All you will have to do is work 4 hours a day.

There are so many reasons why you should get into a program like this. First up, You simply get to play these games long before they are released. You will get to test all areas ie cheat codes, level secrets and all the glitches that only the testers are aware of. Not only that but you get to experience the huge industry of marketing, onto manufacturing, followed by the customer service and of course  the testing of each game.

Unfortunately (luckily for you because you have come to the right place) there are so many imitators’ out there, trying to scam you. So many of these scams are almost identical to this offer but instead of giving back for your subscription they will just take your money and run. The tough fact is it can take a long time to find employment in the gaming industry. This is why most memberships come with a 6+ month subscription; you will receive updates, resources and so much more for 6-24months.

If you do not want to waste your time and energy doing your own research, it is simple, you could just pay a certain fee and start getting results immediately. In this way, you will be supplied with the experience that others posses, meaning you will not have to go through all the disappointment that others have to. Certain websites that will offer you a guide/ebook they will show you the websites that real people have investigated to get jobs that will pay you for testing. They have been through all the scams already so they will tell what ones to stay clear from, this will save you lots of time

Ok, yes I hear the question why would someone pay you to play computer games? To answer this it is really quite simple. The gaming industry nowadays is huge. The total yearly revenue far surpasses billion. Various companies across the world create new games on a daily basis, and the fact is these games will be riddled with various bugs. If the bugs are not located and the game goes out for sale, the implications on that company could be massive. What you need to remember is that the programmers are not always gamers themselves therefore they may not see the things that we do when we play. For example the programmer may have an idea that he thinks will be awesome, but the truth is from a gamers perspective it could be a complete disaster, and this is why they need your opinions and feedback.

Now there are many benefits that come from this type of work, obviously there are a lot more for those that enjoy playing computer games. At school were you not always told to pursue something you enjoy doing, well BINGO!!!  The majority of testing jobs don’t require any post school education, so you don’t need to worry about having to have a degree in computer science. The only thing that is really needed is that you are 18 or over. The money available can be huge, obviously depending on the effort you apply and level of expertise you can earn in excess of 0p/h. The thing that i like most about this job is that you can work when you want, there is no set schedule that tells you, you must work 9-5 on any given day.

Hi my name is Conners. I am 20 and live in the UK. I used to do a lot of writing and reviews, etc., but due to time constraints I had to stop it for a little while. Well, now I am back and enjoying it. Please take a look at further information on how to Get Paid to Test Games.

You just finished building your company’s website. You have tested it yourself and had other company employees test it. The website now goes live. A few weeks later you start getting emails from irate customers who complain that they are unable to place their orders because certain steps in the “Buy Now” process give errors. You quickly fix the problem. A few days later you get complaints about some other issue and you again react quickly to fix the website. This continues for a few months till the complaints finally halt and things stabilize. At this point you make some enhancements to your website. A few days later a customer email alerts you to the fact that in the process of making this enhancement you “broke” something else on the website. Again you spend time to find and fix the problem but by now you are perplexed and not a little frustrated. These issues have cost you many customers in the last few months and potentially spread ill will across the broader customer community. It seems to you that the only way to have detected these issues before they went “live” was to have employed a large army of software testers, something your company is unable to afford.
Enter automated software testing. While nothing can replace good human testers, broad test coverage requires some degree of software automation for it to be economically feasible. Automated testing tools can provide a huge workforce multiplier and do a very good job complimenting human testers. Every change to your website no matter how small requires thorough testing to ensure that nothing else was affected. This becomes very time consuming very quickly due to the large number of possible cases to test. A strategy whereby tests are automated using software becomes an economic necessity.
There are two classes of automated testing tools. The first kind, functional and regression testing tools, helps to make sure that the website behaves as it should: for example if a customer clicks on button X, page Y is displayed without errors. Functional and regression testing tools are able to automate a large number of scenarios to ensure that your website works as intended. The second type, load testing tools gauge how well your website performs when subjected to a large stress, such as a large number of simultaneous users. I will be discussing load testing in a separate article.
I will now give you an overview of the basic characteristics of functional testing. Before you can begin any kind of functional test automation you will need to identify the test scenarios you wish to automate. Once this is done, you will need to generate test scripts that cover these scenarios.
A functional testing tool will typically record user interactions with a website. As you perform various operations on your website or application, the tool records every step. When you finish recording, it generates an automated script from your interactions with your website. Alternatively you could use the tool to construct the script by hand. Typically testers tend to do a combination of the two. They will use the recorder to generate the basic framework of their scripts and then tweak the scripts by hand to incorporate special cases.
Scripts can be graphical and/or text based in nature. A good functional testing tool does not require users to have a programming background. Users not proficient in programming will work predominantly with graphical scripts. In most tools graphical scripts will typically show all interactions in a tree structure and users can edit any node of the tree to modify the script. Some users however, who have programming backgrounds may wish to program their scripts. These users will typically work with a text script written in a standard language such as JavaScript or VBScript.
Once you have generated your script you will need to insert checks in your scripts to test if your website is functioning correctly. Such checks are usually called checkpoints. A checkpoint verifies that values of a property obtained when testing the website match expected values. Checkpoints enable you to set the criteria for comparing expected values with obtained values. The expected value of a property is derived from recording interactions with the web site. It is viewed and modified from checkpoints. The current value is retrieved during replay (i.e. during the execution of the test case).
There are many different kinds of checkpoints. A page checkpoint verifies the source of a page or frame as well as its statistical properties. You can check for broken links, verify link URLs, image sources, the hierarchy of HTML tags or even the entire HTML source of the Web page or frame. You can also set thresholds for the loading time of a page. A text checkpoint verifies that a given text is displayed or is not displayed in a specified area on a web page. A web object checkpoint verifies the properties of a web object e.g. the value of an HTML INPUT field. A database checkpoint verifies the contents of a database used by your website.
When you replay a test script, the testing tool will open the recorded application and perform the recorded steps in the same sequence they were specified in the script. As it replays the script it will also run through all the checkpoints you have inserted into the script. In addition, you can test your application’s behavior with varying data inputs. For example you can try to submit a page after entering different values in the edit box of a web page. At the end of the replay a detailed report is typically be generated.
Functional test automation allows you to automate the repetitive testing of a large number of scenarios across your website. Functional testing tools are an important weapon in your development arsenal whose use provides a huge productivity gain and allows for small testing groups to accomplish significantly more work. There is a very strong economic case for the use of Functional Testing Tools as part of the development and deployment cycle of a website.

The No Child Left Behind Act is up for renewal this year, so Katie Couric wonders whether standardized tests truly measure how kids do in school and life.

If you think your child is in need of special educational services from your public school there are a few things you need to know to navigate the system and be the best advocate possible for your child. Under IDEA, the Individuals with Disabilities educational act, every child is entitled to be tested for disabilities at the request of either parent or teacher. To obtain testing for your child if you feel they are in need of services request in writing an evaluation for your child. Send your request to your child principal. Any child between the ages of 3 to 20 can be eligible for testing.

When requesting testing for your child, ask that he be tested in all domains including speech, hearing, emotional, general intelligence, academic intelligence, communication skills, motor abilities, health and vision. Make sure you put your request in writing, be exact, and date it.

Time lines are extremely important when you’re dealing with a school system bureaucracy. Be sure to keep a folder with all communication you have with the school dated and timed. Include a phone log with exact dates, times and who you talked to. If possible tape your phone calls. Send all communication with the school by certified mail. It may seem excessive but remember the schools primary concern is their bureaucracy, not your child. If your child needs extend beyond what they can easily provide in a regular class room the school may try to avoid giving your child needed help.

You should receive a copy of your states laws and regulations outlining your rights as a parent in the testing, evaluation and implementation of special educational services for your child. Read these regulations very carefully and familiarize yourself with the timelines and language used in the process. Don’t neglect to do this! If you are having trouble understanding the language of the rules and regulations ask for help in explaining them to you. The school is required to make sure you understand your rights.

Your school system has a certain number of days to complete your child evaluation and a certain number of days to schedule an IEP. If they fail to complete it in this time you have a right to request a resolution meeting from the state. You also, have a right to request an independent evaluation for your child at the schools expense if you disagree with their evaluation conclusions. Put all request in writing.

Once testing of your child is completed, a time for an IEP or individual educational Plan meeting will be scheduled. You have a right to take supportive people of your choice with you to the IEP meeting. If all seems to be going well just ask anyone you feel would be helpful to go with you and take notes of the meeting for you. If all does not seem to be going well you may want to hire an educational advocate and plan on taping the meeting.

An Opinion On Animal Testing

admin on July 6, 2011 in State Testing | Comments Off

Jenn Searls

Animal Testing

Animal testing is the act of using innocent animals for scientific experimentation, usually to ensure whether a product is safe for humans or not.  Each year in the United States about 70 million animals are injured or killed in effect of animal testing.  Animals have as much a right to life as humans do. Why should we be able to force animals into risking their lives for our benefit?
Animals react differently than humans to different drugs, vaccines, and experiments. Ignoring this difference is very costly to human health.  An example of the dangers of animal testing is the Thalidomide tragedy of the 1960s and 1970s. Thalidomide had been safety tested on thousands of animals. It was marketed as a sedative for pregnant or breast feeding mothers and it supposedly caused no harm to either mother or child. Despite this “safety testing” at least 10,000 children whose mothers had taken Thalidomide were born throughout the world with severe deformities.
If this tragedy isn’t enough to let people realize the consequences of animal testing, then I don’t know what is.  There are so many people out there who are against animal testing.  I’m sure we could easily find volunteering people to allow testing to be done on them, or even people willing to do it for some cash.

“Because of the irreconcilable biological differences between animals and human beings, the results of animal tests cannot be applied to human beings with any degree of confidence. Dr. Ralph Heywood, past scientific director of Huntington Research Centre (U.K.), stated at a 1989 scientific workshop held at the Ciba Foundation that: ‘…the best guess for the correlation of adverse reactions in man and animal toxicity data is somewhere between 5% and 25%.’ “
-Dr. Andre Menache, speaking at the 10th World Congress on Law and Medicine, held in Jerusalem, Israel, August 29, 1994.
