When it comes to drug and alcohol high school testing , what is more important: Protecting constitutional rights or protecting students? The consensus from students is surprising. There are just as many students for random drug testing as against and in some schools, more students are for random testing than not. The same opinion varies among parents, counselors, coaches and teachers.

There is a big majority of some schools’ who believe there is a big alcohol and a drug problem affecting students. Recent high profile court decisions have determined that it is unconstitutional to randomly test students for drugs and alcohol. The schools that were randomly testing students were testing students who were involved in extracurricular activities- meaning these students had the choice to participate, unlike regular classes required by law. Private schools also fell into this category.

Because the school is private, different laws and regulations differ from public, government-run schools, so they were able to randomly test students. The schools who were randomly testing students all acted on “reasonable cause,” like obvious evidence of increased drug or alcohol use on campus. Now, with recent constitutional cases, schools who were about to begin random alcohol/drug testing have postponed their program until further decisions by state and federal courts.

Students were previously tested using two different methods; urine testing and mouth swab tests for saliva testing. Previously, using either urine or the swabbing tests would only measure very recent alcohol or drug use. Now with EtG alcohol and drug testing, ethyl glucuronide testing, a sample now is able to test several days of prior alcohol and drug use, where it wasn’t possible before. Both urine and swabbing testing are intrusive and cost money to perform. Under current alcohol high school testing rules, a student who tested positive would not face criminal charges, but face varying lengths of suspensions from sports or other extra curricular activities. The student would still attend classes but also be required to attend an approved treatment program.

Hair alcohol testing is the latest and most accurate form of testing on the market today. With only an inch worth of scalp hair from a student, as much as 30 days of alcohol and drug use can be revealed using EtG testing. The instrument used for hair alcohol testing is called a liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, it is a sensitive machine used for testing the smallest of particles in a sample. Besides schools, lawyers, social workers and employers are finding that this type of hair alcohol testing is a far superior way to test someone for recent as well as past alcohol and drug abuse. Plus, hair alcohol testing is by far the least intrusive way to test someone’s metabolites.

Until there is a consensus in the U.S. courts over the rights of students with regards to random alcohol and drug testing, parents, teachers and coaches can only encourage students to abstain with the threat of other consequences or perhaps it will be a peer issue to threaten each other, “continue to abuse and we are all tested via police force, not just by a concerned counselor.”

When I was growing up I had learning disabilities in school. When my son started school I wasn’t worried at all. At the age of three he had a large vocabulary and could turn on a computer, get on the net with dial up, and go to his allowed sites all by himself (under favorites). I didn’t know that doing the summer you needed to continue working with them or they will lose there sounds and letters. If your kids go to day care they are being worked with everyday and there fore will not lose anything.

In second grade my son was tested and they said he was delayed. Their new system is much better today then it was when you and I was younger. You don’t meet with just one person. You meet with four or five people at one time. Each handles different areas of learning. This cuts down on misdiagnosing your children’s learning process. Each person who test your child will have a plan to correct the problem. They mite they to start by reading everything to him. As time goes by he will be reading more and more to them.

Here is what I do with my son at home:

1. I got a fun book for us to read together. He reads a paragraph. Then I read a paragraph.

2. We play a game called, “Who am I?” We use Presidents or someone they need to learn about. Tip: Use dates before saying, “I was the first President.”

3. Play horse. Yes the basketball game. Instead of the word horse use a spelling word.

4. Get them to read a book higher then there grade level. It makes them much more proud to be reading it. Let them know you don’t expect them to get every word right. Not to much higher. You want them to pick up a few words here and there. Not make them feel dumb.

5. Ask them a science or history question out of the blue. It helps there brain to work.

Bring your kids friends in to play the “Who am I?” game or the horse game. It makes it much more fun playing in a group. These games are meant to be loud and fun. It really does surprise their teacher when they aren’t paying attention and their teacher ask them a question and they answer him still not paying attention. But give him a right answer.

Pharmacy School Requirements

admin on July 23, 2011 in School Testing | Comments Off

In order to be eligible for pharmacy school, you will need to complete specific coursework prior to matriculation. For most pharmacy schools, you can take classes all the way up until a week before classes begin for your first year. You can major in anything (you are not limited to Biology or Chemistry) as long as you complete the requirements.

Generally speaking, you will need to have completed the following classes:

1) 1 year of Biology with Lab
2) 1 year of Chemistry with Lab
3) 1 year of Organic Chemistry with Lab
4) 1 year of Physics with Lab
5) 1 Semester of Calculus
6) 1 Semester of Speech or Interpersonal Communication
7) Several Humanities and Social Science Courses

Class requirements will vary from school to school, so you will need to do your research. In fact there may be many other requirements for different Pharm.D.

programs, so I have provide a chart that lists required courses at every pharmacy school. For specific course numbers equivalencies, you will need to conduct your own search on the Internet or contact the admission offices at each school of pharmacy.

You may need to take the following exams:

1) PCAT – Next to your GPA, this is one of the biggest factors to gain acceptance. My other article lists the pharmacy schools that do not require the PCAT.
2) TOEFL – This test may be required if you are a foreign student. But again, not all pharmacy schools require the TOEFL.
3) SAT – If you are applying straight out of high school into the 0-6 programs, you will need to submit SAT scores.

Other admission criteria such as work experience, pharmacy technician license, extracurricular activities, etc.

are not required but recommended to strengthen your application. Like many other professional programs, an interview will be necessary for the schools to get to know you on a personal level.

I am a Pharmacy School Student at the University of Southern California. I was accepted after two years of experience as an applicant (re-applicant), so I have gathered a lot of resources and knowledge on how the application process works. I enjoy technology and helping others with the admission process. My friend and I have created PharmApplicants.com which is a completely free pharmacy school applicant database which lists admission profiles of accepted students to all pharmacy schools in the United States. A prerequisite chart can be found there which will allow you can see all of the pharmacy school’s required courses.

School Teacher Ratings Publicized

admin on July 22, 2011 in School Testing | Comments Off

In the Houston Independent School District and many other districts nationwide, teachers are beginning to be rated on how their student’s score on the tests they provide. It seems rational to test teacher’s way of teaching by testing their students on how well and how much they have learned in their class. The Los Angeles Times published an online database compiling more than 6000 elementary school students together in a comparative way to see how well their students did on tests on subjects that they had taught them. This is basically a statistical method that people are using to compare the effectiveness of one teacher to another.

Effective teachers are hard to find now a day. Students have so many subjects to learn on a daily basis and it’s important for the student’s sake, for ineffective teachers not to waste their time. A student in elementary, middle and high school has a brain that is ready to mold and absorb so much information, why would we want anything less than effective teachers for our youth? We know that the union protects the ineffective teachers from being fired and this is a huge flaw.

The unions are protecting these parasites in the education system and prevent schools from doing what’s best for the next generation. We need the bad teachers out and the best effective teacher in to teach our students. Isn’t the next generation the generation that will soon be running our country? We need a change and we need a change now.

With school ratings, it goes off of the schools subjects all around test scores. Teachers haven’t been rated this way before. It seems practical to go to the source and find out exactly why students aren’t learning like the should, but does comparing some teachers students test scores going to really determine if the teacher is an effective teacher? Maybe.

In a way by running statistics on teachers students test scores, the district will know if the student is having the desire to get good grades. Half of the battle for a teacher is getting its students excited about learning and actually wanting to learn. The other half is the actual teaching. A student can absorb everything the teacher is teaching and learn a lot from the teacher, but if that student doesn’t care about his or her grades, then what Is the benefit of having statistics that run off of students tests scores really saying about the teacher? Its either saying they can’t teach, or they can’t get the student to want to do good in school.

By having a newspaper compile these 6000 teachers ratings based off their students test scores online, the teachers might get a well-needed wake up call. Weather the wake up call is to teacher better, learn a more effective way of teaching, or just simply to get the kids excited about getting good grades and getting them excited about planning a life with extended education, then this way of rating the teachers is working. Regardless, it’s getting the teachers to step up their game and begin to make changes for the better.

The other day I was thinking of ideas for my college speech class and I thought of an crazy idea that kids really don’t need homework to be good in school. As I was talking to my college professor he started to think about the topic and thought that it really was a good fact and I should do some research on the topic. As I was looking into the idea i came across the idea that kids really don’t do homework at all they spend about 10 minutes on school nights doing homework and less than 5 on weekends. Homework opponents argue, among other things, that homework does not necessarily promote good study habits in children. In some cases, for example, homework increases family tension, especially when tired and overburdened parents find themselves resorting to nagging their reluctant children into completing their homework.

Certainly, teachers should not be pressured into assigning homework simply because of societal expectations or only because it is the policy and practice of most formal school systems. Homework, however, has the potential to help a child do well in school if the assignments are meaningful, have a purpose and come with clear instructions. Parents may play a significant role by modeling a love of learning and by being lifelong learners. I feel as an overall person that kids need to stop doing homework and should just focus on test. But, as a student i feel like homework raises my grade and if it wasn’t for homework I feel like my grade would be lower and wouldn’t be as high as it is right now. As I’m getting to the point people should just give up on homework, but I do really feel like it could go either way on the cases. Last, I just feel that we need homework but we just don’t need loads of homework, because i spend about 2 hours a night spending time on homework and studding for that big chemistry test.

How to do well in school

admin on July 20, 2011 in School Testing | Comments Off

Tests and examinations are not the best way to gauge the knowledge and intellectual ability of a student, some of you may say. But, think of it this way, they are the only ways. And you have to do well in them, no matter what. Some of you may have had it easy these few years. For others whom are less lucky and had the going tough, the bad news is you will still need to carry on with it. But, the good news is, you are reading a passage that is going to give you some ideas to help you do well and gain recognition in school.

First of all, from years of experience in schools, it seems that the subjects most high school students have difficulty and a problem with are those that require the need to solve problems, such as Mathematics or Physics. Who knows the limit this sequence will tend to, or the initial speed of this projectile? Seems familiar? Definitely. I have been through it myself. For students with problems here, here are some ways to help. Consult your teachers whenever you encounter problems you are unable to solve. After you obtain solutions or ideas to the problems, keep that type of question in mind. In this way, when problems of that sort actually do appear during during examinations, you know you have them under control.

Art and language subjects are generally obstacles for those who are stronger in the sciences. If you are weak in subjects like Geography, Economics, you should get those concepts into your mind. Learning is NOT memorizing. You need to understand why and how earthquakes happen or what inflation can do to an economy. Listen attentively during lessons, ask when in doubt, work on your assignments regularly and you should be fine.

There are certain things you should take note of during the period of time before your examinations. This is a crucial period since it can determine whether you are able to steer the tide. You should make full use of this time to catch up on past works. After having topics taught a few months ago ‘untouched’, you need to revisit them. You will then have an advantage against your counterparts who are lazy enough to leave them laying around. In this period, it is essential that you maximize your time well. Stop those extra-curricular activities for a little while. Stop hogging the computer for that long a time. Skip lessons if you have to! I used to have a humanities teacher who was no good at teaching at all. Homework collected was never returned. Classes were frequently missed. Focused on the wrong stuff for school exams. Toward the exams, I decided to skip his lessons, spending more of my time on other subjects. I’m not saying that you should play truant, but it will be more practical to spend time on other things rather than an hour listening to nonsense or whatever. On actual exam days, sleep early. Do not spend that extra one hour on television. Go to bed. An extra hour of rest for the brain can bring at least about three percent increase in performance.

Attending school is not for other people, it is for yourself. The above may or may not make a difference to your studies. Ultimately, whether or not you can do well in school is not all that important. The time all the way from first grade to the twelve grade makes up only a small percentage of all the time in our lives. We have to know that there are even more important things waiting for us in our lives. Well then, off you go and good luck!

Driving School

admin on July 19, 2011 in School Testing | Comments Off

Rising traffic congestion all around us is a problem growing bigger by the day. With all kinds of people with their unique temperaments and sensibilities using the roads, even a minor mistake could easily put ones life at stake. It becomes extremely important for everyone to take proper driving lessons before taking a vehicle out on the roads.

A driving school is a place where you get to learn or improve upon your driving skills. A driving school employs professionally trained driving instructors who utilize advanced training methods to teach you how to drive your car properly and safely.

A good driving school aims to train its students in such a way that they can control their vehicles in virtually each and every situation that they might encounter while on road. A driving school goes a long way in instilling good driving habits and road etiquette in its students while theyre on the road.

These dedicated driving schools are there to provide you with every possible information on defensive driving, driving through traffic, child safe driving etc. Driving schools aim to bring down the day to day road hazards and to make driving much better and safer experience for all involved.

In a driving school you get to learn how to drive under the supervision of a professional and qualified driving instructor who is able to provide good advice and can point out your mistakes with his inputs on how to improve upon your driving skills.

You must learn to follow the instructions from your driving instructor to be able to learn safe and confident driving. Driving schools teach you how to understand road signs and signals and adherence to traffic rules that will make your driving more mature and safe. Many driving schools also help in securing proper and valid driving license for their students.

When selecting a driving school you must check on their reputation by speaking to some of their past students. You should also check if they have experienced driving instructors with valid license to teach driving. It is also a good idea to check on the statistics of students from a driving school who got their license in their first attempt at the driving test. A good ratio will definitely go a long way in establishing the credentials of the driving school and its ability to turn its students into good drivers.

Aaron Basedow recommends driving school which has been providing driving lessons and driving tuitions since last 20 years with the help of experienced Driving Instructors.

Schools and colleges’ rankings like other rankings are based on a clash of indexes. Indexes are a compilation of points as per the factors. The criteria for these rankings are nothing but judgment factors.
These judgment factors are generalized into numbers for a better way of comparison. Some general judgment factors include analyzing:Entry Scores Acceptance (ACT and SAT ) General Review of FacilitiesStudent RetentionPlacementsSalary of the Faculty MembersStudent and Faculty RatioMarket Value (this includes how a prospective employer sees an institution)
There are many other minor factors which decide the fate of a college in terms of rankings. These factors are indexed into statistics, so that the list is supported by facts and figures. But the problem with most rankings is the peer evaluation factor. Peer evaluation which is mostly based on surveys is one of the most controversial factors taken for assessment by most college directories.

No doubt surveys are tamper proof, but the authenticity of these surveys has been questioned many a times.
Highest overall school or college is an institution which pips other competitors after all the factors are compiled into an overall score. Hence, even if a school lags in a certain criteria, there is a chance that it may catch up in other aspects. This also explains why a certain school which has been given top honors in college rankings doesn’t necessarily top all the individual criteria, but a top college will definitely win in a majority of categories.
Apart from this, some rankings take into consideration the disaster management programs, administrative evaluation, online degrees & programs and even the crime rates. Overall, factors may be similar, but the method is what differentiates a ranking from other ranking systems.
In terms of universities and colleges, some campuses which get the top slots in most rankings on most occasions are:Harvard universityYale universityPrinceton universityColumbia universityStanford university Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyUniversity of Pennsylvania
All in all, it can definitely be concluded that had it not been for rankings, every college will be the same.

Schools and colleges’ rankings like other rankings are based on a clash of indexes. Indexes are a compilation of points as per the factors. The criteria for these rankings are nothing but judgment factors.

A highest overall school will definitely give impetus to online degrees & programs along with certifications and trainings. It is better to understand the college rankings and its factors before you submit your enrolments.

A driver license is in two parts and you need these two parts to have a license. Theory driving tests were introduced in 1996 and you cannot pass your practical driving test until you have completed and passed the theory test.

The theory test is a written examination that will assess your knowledge and understanding of driving skills and road safety. The authority that sets the theory driving test is called the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

The theory test consists of multiple choice questions and a Hazard perception test. The multiple choices are to assess your understanding of the Highway Code and driving safety knowledge. You are given 57 minutes to answer the questions. It is important that you take your time when reading the questions as you may think you know the answer however it may not be the answer to the question they are asking. If you have prepared well for the theory test you will have time left over at the end to go back and answer the ones that you flagged and were unsure about. It is much better to go through, reading carefully, answering the ones you are certain about and mark the ones you need more time to think about. Otherwise you may spend too much time on one question.

The hazard perception test involves you watching a video clip of a driving scenario and to click to indicate hazards. You are marked by how soon you notice the hazard. You are marked down and disqualified if you simply click repeatedly and continuously.

The great thing about the theory test is you can practice and prepare for the test so that you have the knowledge required and are prepared knowing what will be expected. There are many theory test books that will guide you through what you need to know and also give you example tests to practice. You will also need to learn the Highway Code as these are the fundamental rules that you must abide by when driving. There are also many websites online that allow you to practice your hazard perception test. This will help you with your nerves as you will be experienced in what to expect from the test and the instructions.

You can book your theory test as soon as you are 17 years old. While waiting for the test you can use that time to study the material and practice the tests so that you are fully prepared. It will actually help you with your practical driving lessons as you will have the fundamental knowledge about safety and driving regulations. Both the practical and theory go hand in hand and both will help the other so it is probably best to start taking your driving lessons around the same time as you are doing your theory test. You may start to forget things if you leave a gap of a year or two between your theory and practical driving test. Just remember to prepare as much as you can by studying the material and to not leave it too late that you end up not being able to sit your practical driving test as you have still not passed your theory test.
